Elozino Ogege: Four suspected killers of DELSU undergraduate remanded in prison

Four suspected killers of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate, Elozino Ogege have been remanded in prison custody by Chief Magistrate Helen Okonkwo of the Magistrate Court sitting in Asaba.

The presiding magistrate, Helen Okonkwo on Wednesday in Asaba remanded the suspects on the ground of the offence they allegedly committed, especially as it relates to the killing of a person.

The suspects: Nwosisi Benedict Uche, 34, Maculay Desmond Oghenemaro, 32, Ojokojo Robinson Obajero 37, and Chief Benson Asidor ,65, the native doctor, were allegedly involved in the ritual murder of Elozino Ogege,a 300-level Mass Communication Student of Delta State University (DELSU) recently.

But the complainant, Fedinald Odunna,O/C Legal who represented the Nigeria police force, Delta State Command, in a motion filed December 17,2018, prayed the court to remand the suspects at Ogwashi Uku prison pending legal advice from the Attorney General and ommissioner for Justice in the State.

He also prayed that the court should direct the registrar to forward the case file to the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to enable the DPP look into the case file for legal advice.

Delivering judgement, Chief Magistrate Helen Okonkwo, after grating the prayer of the complainant, adjourned the case to December 31, 2018 for further hearing, adding that ” the nature of the case is a capital offence, and the court should wait for the DPP’s advice to enable know if we will proceed or not” hence the suspects were remanded to the prison custody.

Magistrate Helen Okonkwo however assured that the case would be faster if the Magistrate Court has the jurisdiction to continue the case come December 31, 2018.

One of the accused persons, the 65-year-old native doctor suddenly broke down in tears profusely until he was forced into the Black Maria vehicle that brought them to the court and it drove straight to Ogwashi Uku prison.
