At the briefing, Wada also disclosed that the command seized several items with Duty Paid Value (DPV) worth N176.453 million on November 9 alone.
The State Acting Comptroller, DC Dalha Wada Chedi, disclosed this on Monday, while briefing a press team on the achievement of the command for the month of November 2021.
While taking the press team round the seized items which comprises of vehicles, weapons, general goods, drugs, the state comptroller provided the items and their DPV value as follows:
8 vehicles with fourteen million, four hundred and seven thousand, five hundred Naira (N14,407,500) DPV.
Ash colour Toyota Corolla with seventy one million, three hundred and fifty thousand naira (N71,350,000) stashed inside ‘Ghana Must Go’ in its booth
Hard drugs comprising of 230 parcels of Cannabis Sativa +India Hemp), and the conveying truck both with forty-four million, one hundred and fifty three thousand, one hundred and ninety three Naira (N44,153,193) DPV
Other items include general goods comprising of foreign rice, spaghetti, milk, wraps of second hand clothing, baby wears, pieces of jack knives, macaroni, vegetable oils, bags of potash, tiger nuts among others with forty six million, five hundred and forty three thousand, one hundred and thirty seven Naira (N46,543,137) DPV.
Wada attributed the unprecedented achievement of the command in a single month to the recent provision of 8 hilux to the command by the Comptroller-General, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd).
“The unprecedented achievement you see today in the command is as a result of the unalloyed support and logistics provided by the Comptroller-General, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd) to the command. This means more support, more seizures. We will continue to do our best to ensure that activities of smugglers are decimated to the nearest minimum,” Wada started.
While appealing to smugglers to shelve the illicit business, he said: “the government is not interested in crippling their economic capacities as a citizen, but the issue there is that we must be law abiding citizens. Smuggling is a dangerous venture and the government has made provision for alternatives which the citizens can invest in instead of taking a venture that will lead them astray.”
