In a post on their website, the Reds stated that Salah was close to give his side a 2-0 win against Zimbabwe during the encounter but was denied by goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze.
Reviewing the AFCON match between Pharaohs and the Warriors, Liverpool stated on their official webpage: “Mohamed Salah’s Egypt kicked off the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe on Friday night.
“The Liverpool forward played the entirety of the tournament opener that was settled by Mahmoud Hassan’s 41st-minute strike.
“Salah was close to making it 2-0 for the host nation, but was denied by a fine save from Elvis Chipezeze towards the end of the affair in Cairo.
“The Pharaohs are next in action on Wednesday evening when they play DR Congo.”
Egypt will tackle DR Congo in their next AFCON fixture on Wednesday.
