APC decries three-month suspension slammed on ex-Delta Assembly Speaker

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State Chapter, on Thursday described as malicious and vilifying the three months suspension order slammed on the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly Chief Monday Igbuya over allegations of financial recklessness during his tenure by the Assembly’s leadership.

The State Chairman of the party, Prophet Jones Erue, who spoke to journalists on why the suspension depicted wickedness on the part of the Assembly’s leadership, said; “Why is it now that he dumped PDP for APC the Assembly leadership wants Igbuya jailed? The suspension order is a ruse, and malicious laced with hatred, what happens to other Ex-Speakers? The Assembly should change its decision and recall Igbuya back.”

The Delta State House of Assembly had on Wednesday slammed three months suspension on the immediate past speaker, over allegations of financial recklessness during his tenure as speaker of the House.

The House also set up an adhoc committee to review the report of a committee earlier set up by the House during its executive session on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 which was submitted on February 27, 2018.

According to the motion moved by the majority leader of the House under matters of urgent public importance, Mr. Tim Owherere, the ex-Speaker was accused of squandering funds meant for the renovation of the Assembly Complex to the tune of N670 million.

The motion was seconded by the member representing Ughelli South, Mr. Reuben Izeze, and was unanimously adopted by the House at a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori.

Recall that Igbuya was earlier slammed a three-month suspension upon impeachment which was waved after serving two months.

The ad-hoc committee was headed by the Deputy Majority Leader, and member representing Bomadi Constituency, Mr. Oboro Preyor, while Azuka Azaka, and Reuben Izeze were members.

The Speaker, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori, however, directed the committee to summit its report on October 2018.

Chief Igbuya recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
