According to Nevin, Frank Lampard’s men must overcome strong defences at Stamford Bridge and also to score more goals.
Writing in his column for Chelsea’s official website, Nevin said: “What do we need at this point to stay in the Premier League top four and qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League?
“Obviously, we must find ways of breaking down strong defences, especially when we are playing at home.
“Secondly, we have to get our goals numbers up in the area of crossing the ball from the wing and we need to convert the chances frequently.
“We can benefit from Reece James’ crosses and his running ability, just imagine the number of goals the manager, Frank Lampard would have gotten from James’ deliveries.
“honestly, if can achieve that, then we have a great chance of finishing top four and qualifying for the Champions League despite the way we started this season.”
Chelsea will take on Manchester United in their next Premier League fixture on February 17.
