2019: Political parties begin process to select consensus candidate against Buhari

The process of selecting the 2019 consensus presidential flagbearer of the coalition of opposition political parties has started.

Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, made the disclosure in a statement sent to DAILY POST Tuesday evening.

He said some top opposition figures met behind closed doors on Monday at the Yaradua Center, Abuja.

Ugochinyere disclosed that the decision was taken to start the process that will lead to the eventual emergence of a consensus candidate that will slug it out with President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He added: “The CUPP chieftains pledged their readiness and commitment to forge a common front to chase out the incompetent APC led administration and rescue the country from the gradual drift to a state of economic hopelessness and reign of impunity.

“The meeting had in attendance over 40 Chairmen of National Political parties which are part of the coalition and other strategic partners in the coalition.

“The meeting which was chaired by the chairman of the CUPP steering committee Prince Onyinlola Olagunsoye had in attendance National Chairman of SDP Chief Olu Falae, National Chairman of PDP Prince Uche Secondus , RAPC Chairman Engr Buba Galadima, Leadership of National Intervention Movement, Alhaji Tafawa Belewa, Former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke and all the Chairmen of the over 40 Poltitcal parties in the coalition.”
