Why Buhari govt will not reveal Boko Haram sponsors – Malami

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has again reiterated that the Muhammadu Buhari administration will not name sponsors of terrorism at the moment.

According to Malami, this is so it won’t jeopardise investigations.

The AGF stated this while speaking to journalists in New York, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Umar Gwandu, on Wednesday.

The Federal Government has faced a lot of criticisms lately for not naming terror sponsors despite the help offered to Nigeria by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other countries.

However, Malami insisted they are working hard to ensure financiers of insurgency in the country are prosecuted.

He said, “As per as terrorism funding and financing is concerned, we have succeeded in identifying those that are allegedly responsible for funding same and we are blocking the leakages associated with funding while embarking on aggressive investigation that is indeed impacting positively in terms of the fight against terrorism.

“The truth of the matter is that the investigation is ongoing and advancing. For the purpose of investigation, I would not like to be pre-emptive in terms of making disclosures that will have effect of undermining the successes we are recording.”
