What NBC told Nigerian radio, TV stations on World Music Day

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has cautioned broadcasters in Nigeria to avoid disseminating musical videos that portray obscenity, indecency and express vulgar language to their viewers and listeners.

The regulatory body gave warning in a statement released on Friday as part of activities marking the 2019 World Music Day.

It said that June 21st of every year is celebrated as World Music Day, also referred to as Fete de la musique and this year’s theme is ‘Music at the intersections’.

The commission noted that musicians from all gems and ages, amateurs and experienced performers gather together to express themselves through music as music has more benefits than one can comprehend.

“On this day the National Broadcasting Commission again emphasis the need for Broadcasters to adhere strictly to Areas of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code that deals with music and musical contents.

“Section 3.13.2.2 states that for the purpose of free to air terrestrial broadcast: Nigerian music shall constitute 80 percent of all music broadcast, for purposes of royalties, a broadcaster shall maintain an accurate log of every music broadcasts and retain it for at least three months.

“A broadcaster shall exhibit responsibility, good taste and decency in the choice of music, which in any case, shall not contain lewd, profane, indecent or vulgar expressions, professionalism and good judgment shall be employed in the use a musical as a bridge,” it said.

While speaking on musical videos, the NBC charged broadcasters that obscene, indecent, vulgar language, lewd and profane expression, presentation or representation is not allowed.

“Music is a unifying force, hence It can bring together citizens or tear apart society.

“It can mould our youths or destroy their minds. Broadcasters must be cautious,” NBC warned.

This time around they were surprised by 2face Idibia, Larry Gaga, 2face’s manager who paid a visit to them in the house.

The housemates screamed and leaped in excitement as they welcomed 2face Idibia and the other visitors into the house.

DAILY POST recalls that award winning Nigerian dancer, Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy has also paid a surprise visit to Big Brother Naija housemates.

Kaffy was the second set of Nigerian celebrities to visit the housemates.

Weeks ago, Super Eagles stars, John Ogu and Oghenekaro Etebo stormed BBNaija, House.

The stars were received by housemates as they began Friday arena games.

BBNaija: Mercy buys immunity, escapes eviction till semi finals

Big Brother Naija, BBNaija housemate Mercy has bought her way to the semi finals of the reality show.

Big Brother on Monday night gave the housemates first opportunity to make purchase with the coins they received in the reality show.

Diane booked a spa session with Elozonam, while Mercy begged for more coins from Mike and bought immunity from eviction next week.

This means that Mercy will not be nominated for possible eviction next week.

Official host of BBNaija, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu during eviction show on Sunday, announced that eviction has been cancelled for this week.

BBNaija: ‘Nigerians saving ‘Stupid’ housemates, evicting smart ones’ – Okey Bakassi, Okon

Popular Nigerian comedians, Okey Bakassi, and Bishop Umeh, popularly known as Okon Lagos, on Sunday threw shades at Big Brother Naija, BBNaija housemates remaining in the reality show.

Bakassi in a post on Instagram lamented the eviction of ‘smart and intelligent’ housemates in the reality show.

The comedian criticized the choice of Nigerians in voting for housemates, adding that their decisions showed how Nigerians select their leaders.

According to him, the smart ones are being voted out while the ‘Stupid housemates’ are saved from eviction.

Bakassi said: “The Big Brother eviction show is a reflection of the society, shows that smart, intelligent, stupid, docile human beings can coexist.

“It tells you about politics and how people vote in Nigeria. Most times you think the smart ones, intelligent ones will be the ones to win but they get to leave the reality show while the stupid ones have a way of hanging around for too long even when you don’t like them; that is the reality.

“So at the end of the show, if the stupid one wins, it is you the voters that should be blamed. It tells us about ourselves, our preferences as Nigerians.”

He, however, did not mention the names of the housemates he was referring to.

This is coming few hours after BBNaija housemate, Khafi was evicted.

Okon on the other hand also lamented the choices by Nigerians in the ongoing reality show.

According to him, Nigerian youths from their votes on BBNaija shows that they do not like smart individuals.
