Travel ban: Ohanaeze spokesman, Ibegbu backs Buhari

Mazi Chuks Ibegbu, deputy national publicity secretary of the apex Igbo organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has backed the federal government’s ban on 50 high-profile persons from traveling abroad over corruption cases.

This followed a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari on the full implementation of Executive Order 6.

Ibegbu, who spoke in an interview with DAILY POST on Sunday, explained that the implementation of the order, would help in tackling corruption to a standstill.

The Ohanaeze chieftain however warned the All Progressives Congress, APC-led federal government against being selective while carrying out the Executive Order.

According to him, “Corruption is the bane of this country. Nigeria is ranked as the poverty headquarters of the world. 99 per cent of our resources are owed by 2 per cent of the population. Nigerians are suffering evil effect of corruption, especially by politically exposed people”.

“So, in my view, any effort gear towards apprehending corrupt elements should be encouraged, irrespective of the person doing it. Corruption is a cankerworm that must be vehemently tackled in Nigeria”.

” My position is that any politically exposed person, any civil servant, public servant found wanting must be prosecuted. The money must be recovered to the last kobo”.

“So, it is not a political issue,is not something you play politics with, is all about the lives of the people. Our people are suffering today, because of corruption”.

“Corruption everywhere. Dilapidation in our infrastructures and our education is corruption. So, nobody in his senses, would discourage any efforts gear towards prosecuting corrupt people”.

” But, my advice is that, it must not be selective. Whether you are in APC, PDP, APGA or anything. As far as you are corrupt, you should face the law,” Ibegbu added.
