Suspected armed robber arrested in Ogun

A suspected armed robber, Segun Azeez, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State while planning for a robbery operation with his colleagues, who are now at large.

It was learnt that the 26-year-old suspect was arrested on May 12, following information received by policemen at Sango-Ota division that he and his accomplices “were planning to attack Agoro community of Sango Ota.”

The Ogun State police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen on Sunday that the DPO of Sango-Ota division, SP Saleh Dahiru, had mobilised his patrol team to the suspects’ hideout at Abanikole junction, where Azeez was reportedly arrested as others fled.

According to Oyeyemi, the arrested suspect had one locally-made pistol and one live cartridge recovered from him.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was planning with other members of his gang to attack some houses in Agoro before police swooped on them,” Oyeyemi stated.

Meanwhile, the Ogun Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the robbery suspect to state CIID, while directing that other fleeing members of the gang be hunted for and brought to book.
