Pregnant woman dies in Ogun FMC as NCDC confirms second COVID-19 death

There is panic in Abeokuta as a pregnant woman has died of Coronavirus.

DAILY POST gathered that the woman died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta, as a result of suspected coronavirus complications.

The deceased, according to reliable sources, had earlier been tested for COVID-19 alongside two others – a male and a female.

Our correspondent learnt that she died while awaiting the result of the test.

A source had hinted that when the results of the three persons returned, a male and the late expectant mother tested positive, while the other female tested negative.

The deceased pregnant woman, DAILY POST learnt, had visited the obstetrics and gynecology units of the facility.

She was reportedly moved from one ward to the other before her death.

Her remains had been deposited at the FMC mortuary, while the other positive case was moved to the Ogun State COVID-19 Isolation centre at Ikenne, it was learnt.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the FMC, Segun Orisajo neither confirmed nor denied the development.

He told newsmen that the management of the FMC would be meeting today to make an official response.

Also, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, said she was “aware of the unfortunate demise of an obstetric patient at FMC.”

Coker, however, replied that “I am yet to receive a report from the clinical team at FMC.”

Meanwhile, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed that Ogun State has recorded its second death of COVID-19.

According to reports from the NCDC website, Ogun now has two deaths out of its 56 confirmed cases.

Also, the centre also disclosed that another patient was discharged yesterday, making the total number of discharged patients nine.

As as at 7:14am on May 3, NCDC said Ogun has 45 active COVID-19 cases.
