In a statement signed by his spokesman, Bala Dan Abu on Sunday, Ishaku said Atiku won because of his “determination and desire to serve his country” over the years.
Ishaku also commended other party leaders and delegates for making the convention “the best under the present political dispensation in the country”.
He hailed them for the discipline and patriotism while ensured a hitch-free and credible exercise.
The governor also thanked the other aspirants for “their maturity and their pledge to support the winner”.
He said with that spirit, victory in the 2019 presidential election was certain for the PDP.
Meanwhile, Lagos state chapter of the PDP has also congratulated Atiku.
The party in a statement by its publicity secretary, Taofik Gani, said: “Indeed the winner of this convention is the party which ensured that the elections went free, fair and credible that all aspirants accepted the result and willing to support the winner in the general elections”.
“This has shut out any post-convention acrimony or defection thus disappointing the detractors who waited to see our party fight out from the convention.”
It added that the convention outcome had confirmed that the PDP was back and fully prepared to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) next year.
