Osun LG congress: Oyetola appeals for peace, assures of adequate security during exercise

The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has assured residents and party loyalists of adequate security as the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds its local government congress today in the State.

This is as he appealed to members of the party to cooperate with members of the National Committee on Local Government Congress to ensure a free, fair, credible and acceptable congress.

Oyetola who gave this assurance on Friday during the stakeholders meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo, stating that machineries have been put in motion to bring about a violence-free congress.

While noting that Osun is a state known for peace, the governor commended the party leadership for contributing towards the unity and success of the party.

He observed that the congress was not meant to be a battle ground but an avenue to elect leadership for the party.

“We have adopted consensus. We have confidence in the members of the committee to ensure peaceful conduct.”

Oyetola also called on party members to shun violence and allow for a peaceful congress in order to elect new leaders of the party at the local government level.

He advised candidates who may not come out victorious to remain committed party loyalists and to remain resolute for the success and progress of the party.

Meanwhile, party members have been assured of the determination of the National Committee on Local Government Congress to conduct a hitch-free, fair, credible and acceptable congress across the local government areas of the state.

Also speaking at the stakeholders meeting on Friday in Osogbo, the Chairman of the Committee, Gbenga Elegbeleye stated that they were resolute in extending the hands of cooperation and support to all members as part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy and promote the spirit and principles of all inclusiveness and participatory democratic process.

Elegbeleye revealed that his committee has been equipped with the necessary facilities and electoral materials to ensure the congress holds peacefully in all the local governments in the state.

The committee chairman while advocating for maximum cooperation throughout the process assured the party leadership and members of equitable treatment, adding that the committee would do everything possible to ensure that the congress results are announced on or before Sunday.

The Committee which was set up by the National Extra Ordinary Convention Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is tasked to supervise and oversee the peaceful conduct of the exercise in the State.
