Osinbajo didn’t renounce 2023 presidential ambition – Group

The Progressive Consolidation Group (PCG), a political group recently endorsed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed speculations that Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has renounced his ambition to contest in the 2023 presidential election.

The group said there was never a time the Vice President attended a meeting where he renounced his bid to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, as rumoured, noting that such was the figment of imagination of those purportedly behind the rumour.

In a statement which was sent to DAILY POST on Sunday by the Chairman of the group, Dr. Aliyu Kurfi, it said that, in as much as Prof. Osinbajo was yet to accede to citizen based calls to contest, the purported renunciation was borne out of mischief.

Dr. Kurfi in the statement said that the group would not be dragged into needless conflicts, given that they derived satisfaction with the increasing gale of support for Osinbajo.

According to him, Osinbajo’s strong focus on his responsibilities, along with a decidedly non-desperate disposition towards the 2023 presidential race has further energized their support base nationwide.

“Our dear Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN remains loyal to his boss, President Buhari, he much focused on the job and he has never been known for desperate politicking,” he said.

“Specifically, it must be stated that an outrageous lie that the VP attended any meeting to renounce 2023 presidential ambition or bow to any politician for same, remains an absolute falsehood; how can he renounce what he is even yet to accept or declare?”

The group further insisted that the Vice President’s withdrawal claim was an illusion of certain elements that lack base, hence, Nigerians should ignore the rumour.

“Every well-informed Nigerian knows that PCG is the very first 2023 support group to be formally recognised by our progressive party, APC and we have never sought to prevent or discourage others from following in our footsteps because VP Osinbajo will not subscribe to dirty political games that some typically desperate politicians play,” he added.
