The state commandant of the corps, Pedro Awili who identified the suspects as Abudu Soji, Oluwasegun Dada, Olushola Ebenezer, Tobi Arowosegbe and Amos David were nabbed after months of surveillance on their activities within the state.
Speaking to newsmen, while parading the suspects on Thursday at the Alagbaka head office of the corps in the state, Awili disclosed that the suspects confessed to have committed the crime and are already giving investigators insight into their activities.
“On Oct. 3, two suspects, Oluwasegun Dada and Olushola Ebenezer were arrested at Dajunma road, Akure during the act of breaking down refrigerator shop and stealing five compressors.
“Our men who were stationed at Ondo Road in Akure arrested the two suspects and brought them to the command.
“Also on Sept. 29, our men arrested two men, Abudu Soji and Arowosegbe Tobi who specialise in snatching and stealing motorcycles from people in Akure metropolis.
“We were able to arrest the buyer of the stolen items, Amos David through intelligence and discovered that Amos has been a regular buyer of stolen items in Akure
“And we recovered three motorcycles, bicycle, four umbrellas standing for airtime seller and many iron items,” Awili said.
Assuring the public of safety across the state, he stated that the suspects would be charged to court.
“Let me warn whoever is coming to perpetrate crime within the state to better relocate to another state because NSCDC and other security agencies are determined to ensure that Akure and state, in general, remain a safe haven,” he said.
