Nigeria vs South Africa: Ighalo predicts AFCON quarter-final clash, speaks on not scoring

Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo has predicted that his side’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, quarter-final clash against South Africa on Wednesday night at the Cairo International Stadium will be a “tough” match.

The Shanghai Shenhua, who is currently on three goals along with Sadio Mané, Cédric Bakambu and Adam Ounas, in the race to finish AFCON top scorer, stated this on Tuesday.

The former Watford star, however, said that if he does not score against the Bafana Bafana and Gernot Rohr’s men won at the end of the match, he will be satisfied.

Nigeria head to the game after beating AFCON holders, Cameroon 3-2 while South Africa dumped host nation, Egypt, from the competition.

“We have to do our job because this is going to be a tough game. I’m satisfied I give my best and I don’t look at the criticism,” Ighalo was quoted by CAF official website as saying on Tuesday.

“I’m thinking of the team, if I don’t score and we still won I am satisfied. Against Cameroon it was a difficult game and tomorrow [Wednesday] it is going to be another tough one.

“We are ready and we are going to show it tomorrow. This match is totally different from those in the qualifiers. We know this is going to be a difficult game against South Africa, a very fast team but we will make sure to make Nigerians proud.”
