Nigeria vs Burundi: Etebo set to push Iwobi out of starting XI in AFCON opener

Alex Iwobi’s place in the Super Eagles starting XI is under threat after his failure to impress in their last friendly match against Senegal, OwnGoalNigeria reports.

Iwobi, who started alongside captain John Mikel Obi and Wilfred Ndidi, was by far the less impressive among the trio.

Oghenekaro Etebo who replaced him in the same game, came close to scoring with a well struck free-kick.

Etebo also put in a very good shift and Gernot Rohr has stuck with the Stoke midfielder with the duo of Mikel Obi and Ndidi in training.

Iwobi played for the other team or from the flanks, where he has Samuel Chukwueze, Samuel Kalu and Ahmed Musa to contend with.

Nigeria open their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Burundi on Saturday, June 22.
