Messi silent amid speculation Barcelona could make u-turn on exit

Lionel Messi is yet to confirm his departure from Barcelona, at least 12 hours after the club confirmed he is leaving.

The 34-year-old has not posted his farewell message on any social media platform, a check by DAILY POST showed.

His last post on Instagram, for instance, came two days ago, when Messi told his 242 million followers that “I am happy to announce my first official #NFT collection dropping on #Ethernity soon.”

His silence comes amid speculation that Barcelona’s announcement is the club showing their muscle and this might be a power play between Barca president Joan Laporta and Liga boss Javier Tebas.

LaLiga barred the Catalan club from registering Messi for the 2021/2022 campaign, after finding them guilty of operating significantly over the league’s wage rulings and asked them to cut down their wage bill.

Although Messi was willing to continue his 21-year association with Barca, LaLiga’s refusal to shift grounds, means he is on his way out with the new season starting in less than 10 days.
