Katsina: Flood claims 24, affects 18,245 persons

The Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) says 24 people lost their lives, while 245 others were seriously affected as flood and windstorm caused damages in the State.

Mr Umar Muhammad, its spokesman, made the disclosure while speaking to newsmen in Katsina on Friday.

He explained that all the 34 local government areas were seriously affected by the disaster.

According to him, following the windstorm and flood, several other persons sustained various degrees of injuries, adding that 16, 625 houses were damaged by the disaster.

He also explained that 1, 620 farmlands were also submerged in Kafur, Danja and Ingawa local government areas of the State.

The spokesman stated that properties worth millions of naira and farm produce were destroyed as a result of the flood.

According to him, “The agency had already assessed the affected houses and farmlands in order to assist the victims. The State government will soon start distribution of relief assistance to the flood victims.”

He assured that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), would soon distribute relief materials to the affected persons to cushion the effect.
