Oyo-Ita, who arrived the presidential villa shortly before the commencement of the inauguration of the ministers by the president, was seen heading towards the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari
Oyo-Ita was reported to be on medical leave after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) quizzed her over an alleged contract scam to the tune of N3 billion.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, who was earlier reappointed by the president, first took his oath of office during the inauguration of the Ministers.
Bayelsa guber: PDP mocks APC, tells INEC what to do next
The party said the development was victory for democracy and the fact that manipulators cannot continue to have their way in Nigeria’s electoral process.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately “delist the APC from the ballot as any vote cast for that party would be a wasted vote, since the court judgments has made it clear that the APC is not in the election.”
The PDP invited INEC to note that no fewer than two decisions of courts of competent jurisdiction have negated the participation of the APC in the race.
The statement reads: “The first was the judgment disqualifying the APC candidates over the
presentation of false documents by the deputy governorship candidate, Biobarakuma Degi Eremienyo, which was followed by another judgment, nullifying the entirety of the APC primary that produced the candidates.
“It is, therefore, trite law that given the circumstances that have entangled the candidature of the APC, the party, accordingly, has no place in the November 16 governorship election and cannot lay claim to any vote.
“Notwithstanding the disqualification, the PDP calls on the Police and the military to immediately invite David Lyon and other APC leaders for questioning over the recent gruesome attack and killing of PDP supporters by APC thugs in Nembe.”
The party condemned the attack by “APC agents as cowardly and a clear case of crime against humanity, which must not be politicized under any guise.”
“Information available to the PDP shows that the attackers were known supporters of the APC, who have also been seen on several occasions in functions with APC leaders including the disqualified candidates.
“Our party therefore stands in vehement rejection of any attempt to politicize the attack, insisting that the masterminds, facilitators and executors must be swiftly brought to book on the full terms prescribed by our criminal laws,” the statement added.
Why Kogi Guber may be bloody on Saturday – CDD
In a statement jointly signed by Adele Jinadu, CDD chairman, and Idayat Hassan, the director, the organisation said the incidents of violence can affect voters’ turnout on Saturday.
The organization warned that the election on Saturday would be a ‘bloody process if urgent action is not taken to address the situation.’
The CDD urged security agencies to protect the lives of the electoral officials and ensure that violence is curbed during the election.
The statement read: “Less than 48 hours to November 16, 2019, Kogi State Governorship election, political actors have failed to de-escalate the tension, which had been building up in the State.
“Unfortunately, this has set the stage for what could be a very bloody electoral process, if urgent action is not taken to address the situation
“It is disheartening that political gladiators across the partisan divide have shown no apparent signs of refraining from using vitriolic rhetoric capable of inflaming passions, which could result in dire consequences for voter confidence and turnout and the credibility of the entire process.
“At the CDD Elections Analysis Centre, we believe the credibility of an election does not rest exclusively with happenings on the polls or outcome of the elections. To us, equally crucial is the nature of the environment heading into the polls, and mainly how it contributes to the unfettered participation of all stakeholders, especially political contestants in the process.
“Our findings from the observation of the pre-election environment point to a very volatile political environment, characterised by fierce rhetoric, threats of violence and actual incidents of violence.
“At the last count also, the threats of violence and actual incidents of violent disturbances, including the condemnable arson on the party secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) could have the effect of making voters stay away from the polls.”
DAILY POST recalls that SDP secretariat which was attacked by suspected political thugs on Sunday, was set ablaze in the early hours of Monday.
