Gunmen on Friday night attacked Policemen on “stop and search duty” and killed an officer as they carted away two rifles and a pistol at Kowen Plaza in Asaba, the Delta State Capital, DAILY POST reports.
It was learnt that other police officers on duty when the incident occurred also sustained serious machete wounds.
DAILY POST gathered that the gunmen disarmed the policemen during the attacks and macheted them before they left the area after shooting sporadically.
Contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustafa confirmed the report.
CP Mustafa said, “It happened between 7-8pm. A policeman died during the attacks. They carted away two rifles and a pistol. The police are investigating the matter and I assure you that we will get to the root.”
