EPL: Iwobi equals Ekoku’s record as Everton lose 3-0

Everton midfielder, Alex Iwobi, on Saturday equaled Efan Ekoku’s Premier League appearance record after featuring in their 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Before the game, Iwobi had amassed 159 appearances in the English top flight.

The Super Eagles star was picked to start the game at Villa Park alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure and Brazil’s Allan in the middle.

In doing so, the 25-year-old garnered his 160th appearance.

Iwobi has now become the 10th joint most capped Nigerian player in the competition alongside Ekoku, who played for Norwich City and Wimbledon during his active days.

Newcastle United legend, Shola Ameobi, is Nigeria’s most capped player in the competition with 298 appearances.
