Court arraigns man for removing police handcuffs, escaping from detention

A man identified as James Bright has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for allegedly escaping from lawful police custody.

Bright is alleged to have escaped from police custody and destroyed the handcuff that was used to hold his wrists.

The incident reportedly happened on 4th October at Egbelu community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

When the matter was called, Bright pleaded not guilty to the crime.

He also pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge, which include alleged beating of his wife, identified as Eucharia Ukachukwu.

The accused was subsequently granted bail by Chief Magistrate Israel Agbesor in the sum of one hundred thousand Naira (N100,000) with a surety who must deposit three passport photographs.

The case was, thereafter, adjourned till 15th of November for hearing.
