Champions League: What Fabinho said about Messi after Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Barcelona

Liverpool midfielder, Fabinho has disclosed that he did everything possible to prevent the ball from getting to Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi.

He also said that Jurgen Klopp’s men put their life on the ground in order to beat Barcelona at Anfield.

Fabinho said this while reacting to Barcelona’s 4-0 defeat by Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final second leg at Anfield.

Two goals each from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum earned a famous 4-0 win at Anfield and sent Messi and his Barcelona team-mates out the competition.

“The whole team defended – we left our life on the ground,” Fabinho told RMC Sport.

“I tried to do everything so that the ball does not reach him [Messi].

“We did not have a lot of time after a very difficult game in Newcastle but we are preparing a whole season to experience moments like that.

“After the first game I said that the result was not good but that our performance was good.

“We tried to do the same thing, to press, to give everything but we scored quickly and that made the difference.

“We still had the strength to keep the ball in the end. After the match with our fans it was amazing.”
