Barcelona to have female president – Laporta

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, has said the club will have a female president in the next 10 years.

The Laliga club elect a new president every six years.

Laporta was elected in March to return for a second spell in the role.

All the 41 people who have presided over the club since it was founded in 1899 have been men, but Laporta is hopeful that trend will change in the not-too-distant future.

“Barcelona will have a female president inside 10 years.

“It is long overdue that women are given the recognition they deserve and have earned.

“There are a lot of women capable of being on the board and I think in less than 10 years one will be president,” he predicted on Sunday in an interview with TV3.
