AFCON 2019: Why Rohr will leave Mikel Obi out of Super Eagles’ Round of 16 tie

Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has a swollen knee and may not recover quickly ahead of their Round of 16 clash at the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, SportingLife reports.

The midfielder sustained the injury during Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Madagascar at the Alexandria Stadium.

Following the injury, Mikel Obi missed training on Monday and is expected to be out for a week.

His presence will not be greatly missed, as he has struggled in the games he featured in and did not complete 90minutes in any of them.

The 32-year-old who failed to play the entire duration of both matches against Burundi and Madagascar, has just completed a two-year deal with Turkish Super Lig outfit, Trabzonspor.
