2019 AFCON: Mohamed Salah reacts after Egypt sent Warda home for ‘sexually harassing’ women

Egypt forward, Mohamed Salah, has broken silence after his international teammate, Amr Warda, was disgraced from Egypt’s campaign in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

25-year-old Warda appeared as a substitute in the host nation’s opening game against Zimbabwe but was sent home before their clash against Congo on Wednesday.

There were allegations that he sexually harassed a number of women on the internet.

A British Egyptian model, Merhan Keller, released screenshots of inappropriate messages she and other women allegedly received from Warda on Instagram and Whatsapp.

Salah, who condemned acts surrounding the allegations, insisted that Warda shouldn’t have been “sent straight to the guillotine”.

The Liverpool forward wrote on Twitter: “Women must be treated with the utmost respect. ‘No’ means ‘no’. Those things are and must remain sacred.

“I also believe that many who make mistakes can change for the better and shouldn’t be sent straight to the guillotine, which is the easiest way out.

“We need to believe in second chances… we need to guide and educate. Shunning is not the answer.”
