Stephanie Frappart has been assigned to the annual curtain-raiser in Istanbul, which will be an all-English affair between Champions League winners Liverpool and Europa League holders Chelsea.
The Premier League rivals will contest the trophy on 14 August, and will be led out at Besiktas Park by Frappart and her team of mostly female assistants.
She will be joined by French compatriot Manuela Nicolosi and Michelle O’Neal from the Republic of Ireland, who were also part of her team for the Women’s World Cup final between the US and the Netherlands in June.
The match will be another feather in the cap of Frappart, 35, who made history last season by becoming the first female official to take charge of a top-flight men’s match in her homeland.
Since referring the Ligue 1 clash between SC Amiens and RC Strasbourg in April, it has been announced that she will be in the pool of officials permanently for the 2019-20 season.
It means she could regularly be in charge of matches featuring some of the biggest stars in the men’s game, including the likes of Brazilian attacker Neymar and French sensation Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint Germain.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said: “As an organisation, we place the utmost importance on the development of women’s football in all areas.
“I hope the skill and devotion that Stephanie has shown throughout her career to reach this level will provide inspiration to millions of girls and women.”
Roberto Rosetti, chief refereeing officer at the governing body, added: “Stephanie has proved over a number of years that she is one of the best female referees, not just in Europe but across the world.
“She has the ability to officiate on the biggest stage, as she proved at this year’s Women’s World Cup final.
“I hope this match in Istanbul will provide her with yet more experience as she enters the prime of her refereeing career.”
The UEFA Super Cup will be the biggest men’s fixture to have been refereed by a woman, with the organisation having rarely assigned any such matches to female officials.
Nicole Petignat, of Switzerland, took charge of three UEFA Cup qualifying round games between 2004 and 2009, but their significance pales in comparison to the Super Cup.
More than 40,000 supporters can cram into Besiktas Park and millions more around the world will likely tune in to watch the match on TV.
The only male officials involved will all be off the pitch, with the Turk Cuneyt Cakir acting as fourth official and four men from France, Germany and Italy to be the video assistant referees (VAR).
