The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corpse has apprehended three individuals allegedly involved in the production and distribution of fake naira and dollar currency notes. The suspects, identified as Kamalu Sani, Uzaifa Muazu, and Suleiman Yusuf, were caught following a complaint by a commercial tricycle driver who received a counterfeit N1,000 note.
According to Ikor Oche, the command’s spokesperson, the NSCDC operatives traced the source of the fake currency notes to Kotorkoshi town. The suspects were found with N60,000 and $2,600 in counterfeit notes. One of the suspects, Sani, admitted to using fake N1,000 notes for transactions within Tsafe and Gusau for the past year and implicated two others in the illegal operation.
The arrests in Zamfara of individuals involved in the production and circulation of counterfeit currency highlight the need for vigilance in identifying and reporting such illegal activities. Counterfeit currency not only harms unsuspecting individuals who receive fake notes, but it also undermines the integrity of the country’s financial system.
