President Buhari meets INEC boss ahead of polls

President Muhammadu Buhari met with Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday morning. They talked about the upcoming presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.

President Buhari said that the discussion happened because the chairman of INEC asked for it. He noted that it was all part of the work to ensure the elections go well.

The President mentioned the conversation when he tried to explain why he was a few minutes late to the ceremony to hand over security equipment worth over N12 billion to the military and Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

According to him, he had been grounded by the electoral body for the five minutes he kept the CACOVID group waiting, and he reminded everyone that everything must be done to ensure the election’s success.

“I’m being grounded by INEC. You know next Saturday is a great day for us and I take instructions from INEC so that I make sure there’ll be no excuses for the successful election,” Buhari had told his guests.
