1. The Presidency yesterday said the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria was temporary. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said this in a statement on Saturday.
2. The Yoruba nation secessionists, led by Mr. Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, on Saturday stormed Ado Ekiti for a rally demanding for the realisation of Oduduwa Republic. Igboho, during the rally said that there would be no elections in the Southwest in 2023.
3. The United States Government on Saturday kicked against President Muhammadu Buhari government’s decision to ban Twitter operation in the country. The US Mission in Nigeria in a statement on Saturday said the Nigerian constitution provides for freedom of information.
4. The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on Saturday, ordered the immediate prosecution of offenders of the Federal Government’s ban of Twitter operations in Nigeria. Malami gave the directive in a statement issued by his spokesman, Umar Gwandu.
5. Temitope Balogun Joshua, founder of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) is rumoured dead. According to the rumour making the rounds on social media, the renowned prophet passed away after a programme in his church.
6. Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, called on Nigerians to take the security and economic challenges ravaging the country at the moment to God. He spoke in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Saturday during the 16th edition of Prayer Breakfast held virtually and organised in his honour by the Christians Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter.
7. Over 88 members of a vigilance group popularly called ‘Yan sakai’ in local parlance were killed in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nafiu Abubakar confirmed the incident.
8. Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have arrested two suspects for allegedly spending fake Naira in a rural market in the Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State. The spokesperson for the NSCDC, Kwara State Command, Mr Babawale Afolabi confirmed the arrest yesterday.
9. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has criticised the Federal Government over the suspension of Twitter Operations in Nigeria. In a statement on Saturday, Makinde called for a reversal of the suspension for the “greater good of Nigerians”.
10. The Islamic State, West African Province (ISWAP) has confirmed that former Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau blew himself up after refusing to surrender following the invasion of his hideouts on Wednesday, May 19. This was contained in an internal message from ISWAP leader, Abu Musab Albarnawi.
