1. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali, yesterday, ordered the closure of IGP Monitoring Unit offices in Lagos and Port Harcourt. The IGP also banned operatives of the Unit from undertaking criminal investigations, including taking over cases from State Commands.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, returned to the country from the United Kingdom, UK, where he went for a medical check-up. The president arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport yesterday evening.
3. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, released the former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha after he spent two nights in their custody. Okorocha was released on Thursday evening.
4. Ebonyi State Police Command, yesterday, confirmed the killing of three officers who were on ‘stop and search’ along Onuebonyi, Nwezenyi Road, Abakaliki by yet to be identified gunmen.
5. A clash between two communities in the Fika local government area of Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria, yesterday, claimed five lives with several others injured. The PPRO, Yobe State Command, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim confirm the incident.
6. Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, yesterday, revealed that bandits were operating in at least 24 out of 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Ortom spoke at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Correspondents’ Chapel, forum in Abuja on Thursday.
7. The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed worry over recent attacks on security formations in Imo, Benue and other parts of the country, vowing to revisit the nature and depth of the crisis.
8. Ohanaeze Ndigbo yesterday, advised the Federal Government against the use of violent means to quell national questions by Nigerians as it could lead to more fragmentation and possible disintegration of the country. President General of the apex Igbo body, Prof. George Obiozor, stated this at a press conference in Enugu on Thursday.
9. The Federal Government has lifted the ban on new Subscribers Identification Module (SIMs) card registration. A statement by Technical Assistant (Information Technology) to Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Femi Adeluyi revealed that the implementation would begin April 19.
10. Shortly after landing in Abuja, from a two-week medical trip to the United Kingdom (UK), President Muhammadu Buhari put Acting Inspector-General (IG), Usman Baba, on his toes. He told the police boss not to disappoint Nigerians, whose expectations are high in him as the acting IG.
