Doyin Okupe, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has explained how a Senate President can either be elected or impeached, according to the extant laws of the country.

He spoke against the backdrop of heightened plot by APC Senators and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to impeach Bukola Saraki as Senate President.

The former presidential aide, taking to his Twitter handle on Tuesday morning, explained that “A new Senate President can be elected once a quorum of the Senate has been formed by a simple majority of the members present.Section 50(1).

“But a sitting Senate President can only be removed by 2/3 of the membership of the whole Senate. Unfortunately this is the law today.”
