In addition, it was stated that he had carnal knowledge of the minor as far back as 2018.
Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi heard the lecturer’s case last Friday. He was charged with two counts of defilement and sexual assault by penetration.
Magistrate Osunsanmi did not take his plea when the charges were read.
She told the Kirikiri Correctional Centre to keep him there until she heard from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
The hearing was adjourned until March 6, 2023.
Joke Ladenegan-Oginni, who works for the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), said in a statement that the lecturer was arrested after a Mandated Reporter heard that he was having sexual relations with his daughter without permission.
The survivor’s mother said that her husband stopped being intimate with her in 2018 and that whenever she tries to talk to him about it, he always hits her.
Based on what the DSVA found out, the last time abuse happened was on December 30, 2022.
Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, who is the Executive Secretary of the DSVA, said that she was saddened by the rise in cases of domestic and sexual violence, especially allegations of incest.
Mrs Vivour-Adeniyi asked people to keep breaking the “Culture of Silence” by telling the police about the abuse.
She said that all kinds of abuse are crimes against the state and that abusers will have to face the full force of the law. She also noted that survivors of abuse would get help in all areas.
Mrs Vivour-Adeniyi said, “We use this medium to reiterate the State Government’s Zero tolerance to all forms of child abuse whilst reassuring all Lagos State State residents of the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in ensuring a Lagos State that is free from all forms of Domestic and Sexual Violence.”
