Dr. Manassah Jatau, the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, has been appointed as the chairman of a 16-member state National Population and Housing Census advocacy and logistics committee.
As outlined by the Secretary of State Government, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, the committee’s mission is to conduct extensive public awareness and sensitization campaigns on the 2023 National Population and Housing Census. The committee is expected to develop and execute effective strategies to help the National Population Commission (NPC) generate accurate and reliable census data.
Additionally, the committee will recommend reasonable and affordable logistics and security assistance for the NPC, supervise and guide local publicity and logistics committees, and perform any other activities that will support the NPC in achieving its goal of producing accurate, reliable, and acceptable data for the state.
Dr. Jatau praised his fellow committee members and emphasized the importance of the census for development. Despite the digital nature of the census, he acknowledged the potential for human manipulation and the challenges associated with achieving accurate results.
The committee’s members include key figures from various government sectors and organizations, such as the Attorney-General, the Speaker of the Gombe House of Assembly, and several commissioners.
