The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has confiscated three trucks carrying precious stones without the necessary legal documents. Commandant Muhammed Muazu revealed during a news briefing in Gusau on Monday that the trucks were intercepted en route to Sokoto.
According to Muazu, the truck drivers and owners must provide evidence of security clearance, such as a license to possess and purchase minerals, evidence of royalty payment, mineral title, agent movement permit, and mineral buying center certificate.
The commandant stated that if these documents are not presented within a seven-day ultimatum, the drivers and anyone involved would face prosecution, and the Federal Government would impound the trucks and their contents.
Muazu urged truck drivers to avoid transporting mineral resources unless the owner provides the necessary legal documents. He also called on the National Union of Road Transport Workers to inform their members about the dangers and legal consequences of moving mineral resources without proper documentation from the Federal Ministry of Mining and Solid Minerals.
