A woman, identified as Patricia Okpako, has revealed how she escaped being raped by Fulani herdsmen by throwing her menstrual pad at them.

The woman said the herdsmen, who had attacked her in her farm at the Abraka area of Delta State did not believe when she pleaded with them that she was on her period.

Giving details on how she escaped being raped, Mrs. Okpako told Vanguard, “The herdsmen did not believe when I told them I was menstruating. As they insisted on seeing evidence, I brought out the bloody pad and threw it at them.

“It caused commotion among them. In the confusion that followed, I fled and escaped.”

DAILY POST had earlier reported the killing of a 56-year-old farmer, Mr. Happy Akpomiemie by suspected Fulani herdsmen, who also shot and seriously injured his 36-year-old wife, Mrs. Patience Akpomiemie in the farm, while their son narrowly escaped.

Following the attacks, a member representing Ethiope East in the state House of Assembly, Evance Ivwurie, during a visit to the affected families, said the people would be forced to defend themselves if nothing is done to stop the attacks.

He said, “I am afraid we are going to resort to self-help in defending ourselves.”
