Woman and three children killed as car and train collide at level crossing in France | World News

A woman and three children have been killed after their car collided with a train at a level crossing in eastern France.

Four other people suffered minor injuries in the crash, which happened just before 10am in Avenay-Val-d’Or in the Marne region.

The TER (Transport Express Regional) train, carrying 24 passengers, was travelling from Epernay to Reims when the tragedy occurred.

The four who were injured had been on the train at the time, and the driver was reported to be unhurt.

A psychological support unit has been set up by the Marne prefecture at the Avenay-Val-d’Or festival hall.

An investigation is under way to establish the cause of the crash.
