Winnie Mandela: Fani-Kayode reacts to death of South African anti-apartheid crusader

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, on Monday reacted to the death of Winnie Mandela, wife of late anti-apartheid crusader, Nelson Mandela.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain described the deceased as a great woman whose memory would remain “etched in our hearts and minds till the end of time.”

In a tweet, the former Minister said Winnie was not just a hero but an inspiration to Africans and the world.

Fani-Kayode wrote: “Winnie Mandela was a great woman whose memory will remain etched in our hearts and minds till the end of time.She was not just a South African icon but a source of inspiration and strength to millions all over Africa and a hero to the people of the world.We shall miss her.”

Winnie, who was married to Mandela when he was imprisoned on Robben Island, passed away on Monday at the age of 81.

Disclosing Winnie’s death, Victor Dlamini, who is the spokesperson of the family said, “she died after a long illness, for which she had been in and out of hospital since the start of the year.”
