Why Nigeria helped South-Africa during apartheid – Buhari

[ad_1]

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said Nigeria helped South Africa to restore peace during apartheid because of its quest for lasting peace in every part of Africa.

Buhari said Nigeria had no regret fighting the scourge of apartheid in the country until full democratic system was established.

The President stated this when he received the outgoing South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Lulu Mnguni, at the State House, Abuja.

He said, “Nigeria made lots of sacrifices during the years of apartheid to ensure that full rights were restored to all citizens, irrespective of the colour of their skin.”

Buhari noted that Nigeria will continue to strengthen its historic and fraternal relationship with the country.

Congratulating Mnguni on the successful completion of his duty tour, Buhari also said that bilateral relations between the two countries would be improved.

The outgoing ambassador expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for all the support he received.
