The Police in Lagos State have stated that there was no record that a 23-year-old missing student, Olaniyan Yemi, who reportedly visited Lagos to submit documents for his Industrial Training, slept at any police station.

The state Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chike Oti, in a statement on Wednesday, declared that no police station in Lagos operated a guest house.

A report had it that the final year student of Accounting, Osun State University, Okuku Campus, disappeared after reportedly taking refuge at a police station in Lagos State.

The student was said to have begged policemen at Ojodu Police Station to allow him spend the night at the station because it was late.

Immediately, they granted his request, he called and told his friend of his location and situation.

Olaniyan, a resident of Oshogbo, was said to have slept at the station but since then, nobody knows of his whereabouts.

Olaniyan’s aunt, Mrs. Rachael Folade, said: “The night before he slept, he called one of his colleagues, Oyin Adeyeye, who owns one of the documents that brought him to Lagos.

“He informed her that he would be staying overnight at the Ojodu Police Station.

“He said that the policemen requested for his name, his identity card and some other documents to make him identifiable, which he presented.”

But Oti said there was no record to show that the missing student was at any police station in Lagos either as a visitor or a detainee.

He said: “No police station in Lagos operates as a guest house. It is not allowed.”

“For instance, the detectives would want to know which of the ICAN offices in Lagos the missing person went for the submission of his document because there’s no ICAN office close to Ojodu Police Station.

“Secondly, it was stated in the write up that the missing student is a first time visitor to Lagos, the detectives would like to know if arrangement was made for him to contact anybody on arrival and so on.”

Meanwhile, the family said the case had been reported at a police station in Osogbo, Osun State.

Consequently, Olaniyan has been declared missing.
