#unwantedivanka: Awkward G20 meeting inspires flurry of parodies

Ivanka Trump’s awkward appearances at the G20 summit and the demilitarised zone in North Korea have inspired a wave of parodies showing the so-called “first daughter” photoshopped into significant moments in history.

In G20 footage released by Emmanuel Macron’s office, Mrs Trump can be seen attempting to chip in during a discussion between the French president, Theresa May and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau.

Also present is International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde, who appears to have a pained expression as Mrs Trump interjects.

The moment has inspired the hashtag #unwantedivanka, with Twitter users photoshopping Mrs Trump next to Martin Luther King and at the Yalta peace conference with Winston Churchill, Franklin D Roosevelt and Joseph Stalin.

Another showed her pictured near a kneeling Colin Kaepernick – the former NFL star whose national anthem protest infuriated her father.

As well as the hashtags and jokes on Twitter, politicians have been having their say about Mrs Trump’s appearances.

Democrat congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Ortiz tweeted: “It may be shocking to some, but being someone’s daughter actually isn’t a career qualification.

“It hurts our diplomatic standing when the president phones it in & the world moves on. The US needs our president working the G20. Bringing a qualified diplomat couldn’t hurt either.”

However, former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has hit back. She posted: “Phoning it in @AOC is wasting your time on Twitter while destroying jobs in NY.

“@realDonaldTrump & @IvankaTrump actually created millions of new jobs and continue to make the US stronger on the global stage but thank you for reminding Americans everyday why they elected Trump.”
