Unending Terror: Bandits Unleash Mayhem, Kill 25 in Latest Zamfara Attacks

Bandits wreaked havoc on Saturday, resulting in the death of at least 25 individuals in two communities within the Maradun local government area of Zamfara State. These attacks follow closely on the heels of a similar incident just a week prior in the Kanoma district of the Maru local government area, where over 25 lives, including 16 vigilantes, were lost.

According to residents who communicated with Daily Trust, the bandits stormed the village of Janbako, causing the death of over 20 individuals. “They arrived at the village on motorbikes around 2 pm and opened fire on the residents. The highly frightened residents scrambled into their houses for safety,” said Buhari Saminu, a local resident.

The armed criminals then turned their attention to the Sakkida community, where they fatally shot five people. Some of the victims have already been buried.

Zamfara’s Governor Dauda Lawal condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric”. He asserted that his administration would not sit idly by while criminals instigate terror without facing consequences.

The Governor, speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Broadcast Media, Public, and Press Affairs, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, noted that this unfortunate event occurred just as his government is intensively strategizing on ways to resolve the prolonged security issues in the state. He stated, “A directive has been issued to the Heads of security agencies in the state to urgently deploy more security personnel to the affected communities to forestall further destruction of lives and properties in the area.”

The state police command spokesperson, ASP Yazeed Abubakar, could not be reached for comments at the time of this report.
