Today, in Birnin Kebbi Local Government, Kebbi State, there is a heavy presence of security operatives at polling units where the supplementary election is taking place. Security personnel from the military, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are stationed in strategic locations throughout the polling units.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the Kebbi governorship election inconclusive due to extensive cancellations and overvoting in 20 out of the state’s 21 local government areas. According to returning officer Professor Yusuf Sa’idu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 388,258 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) garnered 342,980 votes, leaving a difference of 45,278.
Our correspondent reports that security forces are positioned at various locations in the polling units while voting continues. Heavy army patrols are also being conducted in the areas, with soldiers seen in armored vehicles and military vans.
