Sudan Crisis: FG Warns Stranded Nigerians Against Dangerous Border Journeys

The Federal Government (FG) has cautioned stranded Nigerians in Sudan against embarking on dangerous journeys to borders while they wait for evacuation. The statement, jointly signed by the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, advised the stranded Nigerians to maintain communication with government officials on the ground.

The warning comes after reports that some students were attempting to reach contiguous borders with Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, or Chad independently. The statement emphasized that the Nigerian government is working closely with relevant stakeholders to evacuate the affected citizens, including students, and urged them to remain calm and in contact with Nigerian Embassy officials in Sudan for updates and instructions. They can reach the Embassy Officials on the following telephone numbers: +2348035866773, +249961956284, +2348063636862, +249961956274, +2349066663493.

Parents were also advised to encourage their children to avoid undertaking dangerous journeys to borders due to the risks involved. The FG reassured that concrete plans are in place to deploy air transport shortly to evacuate all stranded Nigerians through identified safe transit areas and return them to Nigeria safely and with dignity.
