Stop playing holier than thou – Gov. Akeredolu tells Kumuyi

The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has berated a former Chief Judge, CJ, of the state, Olasehinde Kumuyi over a recent statement made by the latter against his government.

DAILY POST had reported that the retired CJ, who formally joined politics under the platform of the Labour Party, carpeted the Governor Akeredolu-led administration for marginalizing Akoko division of the state which comprises of four local governments.

The retired jurist, who had described Akeredolu’s government as visionless and lacks direction, stated that it has failed to fulfill the vows made to the Akoko people during electioneering.

But while describing the statement by the former Chief Judge as uncharitable, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategies, Dr Doyin Odebowale, stated that the known impression of Kumuyi falls below standard.

In the statement entitled: “When the gold rusts,” Odebowale described the tenure of Kumuyi as the Chief Judge of Ondo State as calamitous not worthy of emulation by successive Chief Judges of the state.

According to the statement, “He participated in partisan politics, contrary to the oath of office of judicial officers. He was a member of the Labour Party. He moved with his cohorts to PDP.

“He is back in Labour Party with his kindred spirits. He has always participated in politics. It is, therefore, not difficult to imagine the nature and character of the judgements of this strange jurist as a judicial officer while in service.

“The current Administration in Ondo State inherited a judicial system that gave it a cause for some concern. No aspect of the third arm of government was spared the touch of putrescence.

“The Governor and the current Chief Judge are determined to redirect the State’s judiciary to the path of rectitude. The pervasive rot, bequeathed to the judiciary by the Justice Kumuyi, led leadership, is still being cleared.”
