PSG faces Champions League ban over Neymar, Mbappe deals

Paris-Saint Germain could face a hefty fine or even a ban from the Champions League, following a UEFA probe triggered by the transfers of Neymar Jnr. and Kylian Mbappe.

Preliminary investigation revealed that PSG “overstated” how much they received from sponsorships.

The Ligue 1 champions activated Neymar’s £200million release clause in his Barcelona contract last summer and then acquired Kylian Mbappe on a loan deal, with a view to permanent move which could rise to £166m.

UEFA’s probe is looking at whether PSG broke financial fair play (FFP) rules.

According to the Financial Times, UEFA hired sports consultancy firm Octagon to look at PSG’s sponsorship deals and determine if they are “fair value” after concern some money had been received from “related parties” close to the club’s owners.

“The big question, clearly, is UEFA going to be brave enough to enforce their own rules?

“If not for PSG, then frankly why bother?” a source close to the investigation said.

UEFA will apparently meet next week to discuss the review.
