Probe FRSC now – Group tells Buhari

The Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR), Delta State Chapter, has called on the Federal Government, the Department of State Security, Inspector General of Police, ICPC and other national anti-crime agencies to extend the anti-corruption war on the chronic corruption in the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), threatening a massive protest against alleged extortion by FRSC officials in the state.

CDHR made the call in a statement signed by its Delta State Chapter Chairman, Prince Kehinde Taiga, a copy of which was made available to DAILY POST titled, “Committee for the Defense of Human Rights Delta State Chapter to Mobilize a Peaceful Protest against Federal Road Safety Corps for illegal Extortion on National Drivers License.”

Prince Taiga in the statement, alleged# that FRSC Command in Delta State keeps extorting Deltans between #18,000, #25,000 and other unstable prices on acquiring the National Drivers’ License, adding that investigation carried out in Asaba, Ogwashi-uku axis confirmed this extortion as now the norm against the approved #6,350 by the Federal Government.

Part of the statement reads, “We are compelled by the collective reality of the Nigerian agenda to act at this point, seeking a corrupt free nation worth workable institutions. As a human right body, we can no longer sit in the comfortable chamber of disequilibrium while our state continues to burn under the gross and brutal extortion by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on National License.”

” FRSC officers have vowed to frustrate anyone who will not key into the illegal extorting prices with a tactics to delay and deny data capture for the Delta Command to order and revert this obvious outrageous illegitimate extortion to normal as our eyes watch keenly. We also use this medium to notify the Delta State police hierarchy on our planned protest against the FRSC scheduled for soon”.

The statement added that, “We call on the Presidency, the Department of State Security, Inspector General of Police, ICPC and other national anti-crime agencies to extend the anti-corruption war on the chronic corruption in the FRSC. We also call on all Deltans to join us in the protest and intellectual battle against the FRSC. A stitch in time saves nine.”

But in a quick reaction, the State Commander, FRSC Ramdom Kulvin, described the allegation by CDHR as spurious, unacceptable, cheap blackmail and total falsehood, noting that FRSC is not involved in collection of money in the chain of agencies involved in issuance of National Drivers License, saying, “It is a total falsehood, our men are very responsible, it is not correct at all, the CDHR should look the other way not for men and officers of the FRSC”.
