On International Workers’ Day, Nigeria’s President-elect Sen. Bola Tinubu has vowed to enhance the wages, social, and economic justice of Nigerian workers. In his message, Tinubu stated that under his administration, workers in the country would receive a living wage that would allow them to live a decent life and support their families. He also described himself as a reliable ally and collaborator in the fight for social and economic justice for all Nigerians, including workers.
The President-elect emphasized his commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which outlines his plans for improved welfare and working conditions for Nigerian workers. He expressed his determination to fulfill this covenant and encouraged cooperation and understanding from all stakeholders, as difficult decisions would have to be made for the greater good of the country.
Tinubu recognized the significance of International Workers’ Day as an occasion to honor the hard work and dedication of the working class, whose efforts continue to drive human progress and development. He also acknowledged the labor movement’s role in the struggle for workers’ rights and socio-economic justice, which has been observed worldwide since 1891.
He further praised the Nigerian labor movement for its contributions to the nation’s development, including its participation in the fight for independence and the restoration of democracy in 1999 after nearly two decades of military rule. Tinubu emphasized the importance of the labor movement in building a stronger, united, and more prosperous Nigeria and urged all parties to work together towards a brighter future.
