The Borno State police command has recovered several arms and ammunitions from suspected armed bandits, who were arrested in Maiduguri, Damboa and Nganzai local government councils of the state.

The suspects, 11 in number, were arrested for procession of various stolen properties, including two electric giant generators, 10 units of GSM

phones, two AK-47 rifles and General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and
motor vehicles.
The Commissioner of Police Mr. Damian Chukwu, who spoke to newsmen on Monday in Maiduguri, said the arrests and recoveries were made in January this year.

According to him, on January 31, 2018 “Aminu Sani of Jajeri ward and
in company of Alice James reported to metro police and discovered an
AK-47 rifle and 10 rounds of ammunition in their shop along Baga road.”‎

On recovery of arms, he said: “Following a tip off from an informant
at Gajiram in Nganzai Local Government Area, some Fulani herdsmen were
held hostage and placed on a ransom by suspected Boko Haram terrorists
in Galte bush.

“Policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer and Civilian JTF
operatives mobilized to the area and engaged the insurgents in a gun
battle.

“In the process, the terrorists fled and abandoned a General Purpose
Machine Gun (GPMG) with breech number 151399 and five rounds of
ammunition.”‎

He said the police also recovered 200 rustled cattle and handed them over

to their owners in the council.
